Alabama, USA – After spending the previous night in support of Teammate Ben Kersten, Alessandro Bazzana enjoyed the freedom that today’s punchy road race offered. After 80k of pristine rolling country roads Bazzana broke clear of the peloton and was joined by Cesar Grajales (Bahati Foundation), and Matthew Crane (United Healthcare) with 20 kilometers to race. 5 kilometers later Crane succumbed to the pressure being applied by his breakaway companions and was dropped leaving Bazzana and Grajales to ‘two up’ to the finish.
The chasing peloton failed to make a dent on the leaders position through the last 15 kilometers of rolling terrain leaving the two leaders to contest the finish. It was Bazzana who had two much speed for Grajales, prevailing in the two up sprint. Crane held on for third. Bazzana said, “I felt really good this morning when I woke up, I wanted to ride in the front and then in the break. This course is tough and fairly selective and I knew that a break would go. I am very pleased for myself and my team.”
Team DS, Andrew Wetherington said “The plan was to get Bazzana in a break that would carry him to the finish where he could "Turn the Jets On" for the win. Bazzana has had a great start to 2010 with today’s result his 5th win and the Team’s 23rd."
